Kabala and Shin. 1995
Painting #34 depicts the Kabala which comes from the mystical interpretation of the Bible and is part of the Jewish religion's understanding of the essence of God. Additionally, Kabala is an estoeric method, descipline and way of thought. The Kabala teachings are used to try to undestand the relationship with eternal and mysterious infinity and with the universe. It is centered around an interpretation of religion that is mysticial. Arnold combined Moroccan, Mexican and Hebrew figures and sybmols in order to create his paintings of the Kabala. Arnold wanted to try to understand the connnection between different geometric and mathematical patterns that different cultures shared. Additionally, Arnold depicted the symobl of the Shin which is an emblem for God.
However, Arnold was more inspired by the geometric shapes and symbols that represented the Kabala and the Jewish heritage it resembled.
