Statue of Liberty with Sanskrit "OM" (New
York 1990)
In 1990, Arnold and friends went on a sailboat around the Statue of Liberty. While on the cruise, Arnold was sketching what he was seeing and then transformed his drawings into paintings that were depicting the Statue of Liberty. He added a machine gun to the statue to make a comment on the 1991 war in the Persian Gulf. Additionally, he included a Sanskrit engraving "OM" onto his Statue of Liberty paintings. Sanskrit is sacred to both Dharmic or Indian religions. Arnold used his depiciton of the Statue of Liberty to cross the boundaries and cultures through the meaning of each symobl he included in this series.
