Wind Song 1995
Arnold Wechsler was inspired by Paul Gauguin's last painting "Riders on the Beach" which was exhibited at the Boston FIne Arts Museum. Both Arnold Wechsler and Paul Gauguin created a scene that reflected on life for the viewer and the artist to be set in the future. The horses are drawn in a primitive manner and also resemble cave drawings. Arnold 's drawings of the horses are traced and redrawn on different surfaces: wood, paper, and canvas. Arnold's horses roam over one painting and continues their journey to the next piece by going left to right. He depicts men riding horses who are out on the hunt, but the prey is not inclued on the piece. Arnold paints the mens' heads as skulls. Piece #118, is created by using thick areas of pink which creates an irregular pattern, while the horses are painted in strong hues of red and green.
